The best way to be of support is to prepare ahead of time. Same goes with breastfeeding. Every mother and baby is special and to be off of any suitable help, it is necessary to be prepared. Basically, line up breastfeeding support ahead of time. Find resources that can help, especially when and if the mom runs into any breastfeeding issues.
3. Help in other ways
Asides caring for the baby, there are many other ways to assist a nursing mother. Doing the dishes or helping with laundry can go a long way to ease their stress and will be greatly appreciated.

In caring for the baby, it is advisable to take the cue from the mother. Some might be happy to let you hold them but some might not want you to for too long. You will not be able to feed the baby, in fact you shouldn’t even really try to hold the baby much unless the mother encourages it. If you really want to help a mother with a new baby you should come at an agreed upon time, bring food if you can.
